On September 13th, Duke filed their formal application with the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB). The OPSB (part of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio) approves intrastate natural gas pipelines. Duke’s 101 page application includes project details and a preferred and alternate route for the project.
The approval process includes analysis of Duke’s application by OPSB staff, public hearings and an adjudicatory process. This process can take 6-12 months or more. The OPSB staff has several criteria which must be met, when considering whether to approve the pipeline. However, to date, the OPSB has never denied an application for an intrastate pipeline.
